ABOUT US
We are a small breeder of German Shepherds and we plan to stay small in order to give each puppy we breed the most attention and handling possible. Our dogs are predominately German show lines. My goal is to breed only the highest quality shepherds with high intelligence, beauty and sound minds and bodies. We do not have a kennel, our dogs live with us in our home and are considered members of the family. The puppies are born in our home and are given daily handling from birth until they go to their new homes. It is our goal to give our puppies the best beginning possible so they have the foundation to excel at anything they are asked of, be it obedience, agility, protection, or just great family pets.
BACKROUND AND EXPERIENCE
I grew up in the country and we always had dogs when I was young. At the age of 15, I bought my first purebred dog, a Sheltie, with babysitting money I saved over the summer. With her, I began showing in conformation and obedience at dog shows. For about 10 years, I raised Shelties and exhibited in conformation and obedience. I also raised a few litters of Collie puppies. Then I got married and family concerns took me away from raising dogs, however I always had dogs around and my two sons grew up around dogs all of their lives.
In 2002, we lost our beloved Collie Ryan at the age of 12. When we decided to get another dog later that year, we decided to get a different breed as we wanted a dog of similar temperament to Ryan but he was not a typical Collie in temperament. When researching different breeds, German Shepherds seemed to be closer in temperament to Ryan. In the fall of 2002, I purchased my first German Shepherd and have never looked back. She and my boys grew up together and she was great with them but she was mostly bonded to me. In 2007, I purchased my first German show line shepherd, Dillon. I fell in love with the temperament of the German line dogs. He was protective but not overly aggressive and would always accept guests in our home and we could take him anywhere. It is my goal to breed dogs like Dillon so others can enjoy these great family pets and protectors as much as my family has.

THE CARISA DIFFERENCE
At Carisa Shepherds we believe that great beginnings lead to great dogs. Therefore, we work hard to give our puppies the very best start in life. This beginning starts before the puppies are even born. We give great thought to every breeding. We first look for good pedigrees and prefer German import lines. Then we choose dogs with stable temperaments and healthy bodies for our breeding prospects. We try not to hyper focus on any one trait but look at the total dog and what they can offer their offspring.
Once chosen, our dogs live in the house and are cherished members of the family. Happy, well adjusted mothers produce happy, well adjusted puppies. Each litter is born in the house and welcomed into the world. Each one is carefully weighed, fitted with a Velcro id band, and checked out for any problems. The puppies are weighed each day for the first two weeks to ensure that each puppy is gaining weight and thriving.
From the 3rd to the 16th day, we do bio sensor stimulation on each puppy. The Bio Sensor program was developed by the military. It stimulates the puppy’s brain in ways that would not happen naturally. It is thought to make puppies better able to handle stress, and more resistant to disease as they grow. Some swear by this program and others think it is a myth but at the very least it ensures that the puppies get equal handling at this age. By the time the puppies’ eyes are open, they are already very used to being handled by people.
As they grow, we continue to offer new experiences. They are exposed to household noises, different flooring surfaces and other dogs and people. The learn to go up and down stairs, go outside and begin to learn about crates. We never let a puppy go before 8 weeks and generally keep them until 9 weeks. We don’t release them at 6 weeks because we want to make sure they are fully weaned and eating well. By the time a puppy goes to his new home, he has had his first ride in a car, been vet checked, microchipped, been wormed and been given two rounds of vaccinations.
Once a puppy goes to his new home, we offer lifetime support for the new owners. We are always willing to answer any questions and address any problems that may occur. Our puppies are also backed by what we believe to be one of the best guarantees in the business. We offer a 3-business day money back guarantee followed by a three-year replacement guarantee against any severe hereditary defects.
If you want your next canine family member to be not just a good dog, but a great dog, we would be honored if you would consider one of our outstanding puppies.
